Exploring Copenhagen
Well, as usual I was up way before everyone else. I decided just to really enjoy my time and enjoy a nice hot cup of coffee!
Adeline got in some good wiggles this morning before we were on our way.
We made our way through Nyhavn after having breakfast at home. This time we were headed toward the island of Christianshavn. The Christmas market was still open so we got one more mug of glögg for the walk and tried the mini pancakes (Aebleskiver).
We walked over a huge, fancy bridge to the island and walked through the "normal" (non-touristy) neighborhood, past apartments and churches built around 1600.
On Christianshavn there is a hippie commune that is still in existence, but it's pretty much just 25 year old guys who are drugged up and kinda sleezy. There was one section with neat decorations, though!

It was time for lunch, but we didn't really see anything worthing going to on the island so we went back to Nyhavn where we had seen a lot of quaint looking restaurants. We decided on McJoy's Scottish Pub along the canal for a fish sandwich and avocado salad. (Fun fact: Hans Christian Anderson lived at 20 Nyhavn Street!)
Walking back to Nyhavn for lunch |
Will wanted to go back to walk through a different part of Christiania that he thought would be more interesting but really it was just more desolate and there were these two losers who threw a firework into the river. Fortunately Adeline slept right through it and the ducks seemed OK, but not cool! So we got the heck out of there and went back to Nyhavn.
Headed back to Nyhavn |
We explored Kastellet, a star shaped military fortress, complete with a moat! It was seriously like being in the Medieval Times! It was all really old cobblestone roads inside the walls so we didn't do much exploring inside (too bumpy even for our stroller!) but it was beautiful to walk around the outside.
We walked through a super posh neighborhood on our way back to the apartment. Will made us mushroom ravioli while I pack up our stuff - tomorrow we're off to Stockholm! Adeline even "helped!"
