Getting Down to Business
Tuesday was busy for the both of us. Will had a meeting in the morning at the Oceanic Institute in Waimanalo. I stayed back and took care of a few things before he came to pick me up for lunch. We ate an awesome Mexican street food inspired taco lunch at Cocina in Kaka'ako. From there we ran a couple errands before driving up to Kaneohe for a meeting I had. It was a beautiful drive up the Pali Highway through the mountains and valleys. It was raining, but so it goes during the rainy season in Hawaii, yeah?
Will had been talking with a friend about perhaps going out on a boat off Waikiki that night. That afternoon Will got a text saying it was off because of a tsunami threat. We heard a couple people talking about it, so I looked it up, and the earthquake off the coast of Chile caused a tsunami which meant that Hawaii could be threatened. As we drove back down the Pali Highway to Honolulu we listened to local news and talked about what we wanted to do with the evening assuming we wouldn't have to evacuate! (Our hotel is in the evacuation zone for tsunamis). When we got home we turned on the news. The tsunami evaluators were really taking their time to come to a conclusion about the level of threat imposed on Hawaii. Since the earthquake happened quite a ways away, they had some time to make an educated decision. A tsunami advisory warning ended up being issued, meaning that people should stay out of the water, and boats should be tied up more securely than usual. As far as I saw from peaking out the window later, nothing much happened, which was very good!
So after hearing that we didn't have much to worry about we followed our plan of "happy hour" on the beach while we watched the sunset. Here we are being goofy on the beach.
After the sun went down we walked along the beach to get dinner. We settled on Yard House. We don't usually go for chains, but this place has great veggie options and draws from local beer selections, so it's a good mix. After a delicious dinner we had a great walk along the beach back to the hotel. This is really the best way ever to end the day!
