Salzburg!

Today we drove to Salzburg, literally only about 15 minutes away, but it felt like worlds apart from where we were. This historic town is home to Mozart, the Salzburg Castle, and loads of charm and history.

We got to Salzburg and walked and walked. We saw the castle atop the hill.

We visited a cathedral.

We explored the old city streets and went down many little nooks that looked like the one below.

The story behind all of the signs above the shops is that a long time ago, no one knew how to read, so there were symbols placed above the entrances so people knew which store had which good/service.

As we were walking around the old city we came upon the entrance to go up to the top of the wall that overlooks much of the city. Here we got more spectacular views and stopped for lunch with a view.

Buildings built into the wall surrounding the city. Up ahead is the entrance to go up to the top.

We made our way down the wall and back into the old city, but we still had a little time before our event that night, so we walked along the river and across it.

We came across this cemetery.

Finally it was time to start heading toward the Salzburg Castle for the Mozart Music Concert and dinner that we were attending. We went a little early so that we could get some amazing sunset views of the city and castle.

Riding the funicular to the top!

The castle all light up at the end of the night

I know we only scratched the surface of Salzburg, but I think we made the most of our day!
