Labor Day Weekend - Cali Style

Saturday Will and I hosted a BBQ for his colleagues, their spouses, and a couple of our friends.  Will manned the grill and cooked us up some great burgers.  We had a nice time visiting and relaxing by the pool.

Sunday was a bit more adventurous.  A friend of one of Will's co-workers owns an archery facility south of San Francisco in Daly City and he invited us to join him for some shooting.  I was a little hesitant, but figured I'd give it a try!  So on a very foggy Sunday morning, off we went to Daly City for a little archery.

I have developed a bit of an obsession with taking pictures through the car windows. But on a morning like this, who could resist!

Crossing the Bay Bridge from Oakland into San Francisco.  SO foggy!

Approaching Yerba Buena Island, which is the island connected by the Bay Bridge in between Oakland and San Francisco.

Here is Will and the guys shooting their bows and arrows. I used the target to next to the one Will is aiming at below.

These guys are hardcore archery people. They had some pretty intense gear.

After archery we were starving! Considering we were already on the west side of the Bay, we headed in to the city for some brunch.  I found a list of top ten brunch spots in San Francisco so we picked one and off we went! We went to Serpentine in the Dogpatch neighborhood which is just south of AT&T Park. We made a GREAT choice. We will definitely be coming back here again!

Following our usual routine when we find ourselves in a new neighborhood, we went and got coffee and went exploring!  As we were driving up and down the hills we stumbled upon a cafe called Thinkers Cafe.  As many of you know, Will has a tattoo of The Thinker on his arm, and we were joking that maybe he would get a free cup of coffee because of it.  We went inside and ordered a medium iced coffee that we were going to share. Will paid and the man poured Will the coffee.  As we were talking with the guy Will rolled up his sleeve, showed the man his tattoo, and *jokingly* asked, "So do I get a free cup of coffee because of this?"  The guy thought it was cool and showed the other lady there who appeared to be an owner or manager and she thought it was great! Then all of the sudden instead of just one cup of coffee on the counter, there were two! So Will really did get a free cup of coffee from them. Ha!

We continued on and drove around the neighborhood of Potrero Hill.  It is beautiful neighborhood with lovely row houses and great views of the city and Bay!

We wanted to get back home in time for some pool time, so we headed back home with one last detour along the way.  As I mentioned previously in this post, there is an island in between San Francisco and Oakland.  Well, two islands actually.  The road itself travels through Yerba Buena Island, and from there, there is a roadway that connects to Treasure Island.  We pulled off at Yerba Buena Island and stopped an over look area right before crossing into Treasure Island.  That will have to be for another adventure.

Bay Bridge and San Francisco

Looking into our bright future in California!

The fog was just incredible.  The photo below is of the Golden Gate Bridge. Can you even find it? There's a little tiny bit sticking up at the top. I bet it was just crazy to be driving on it!

Alcatraz

And so it ends, our Labor Day weekend.  Today, (Monday) Will is back in the office.  We are gearing up for a trip back to Minnesota this weekend for a wedding.  It will be wonderful to see many of our friends again!
