We woke up for the last morning to the sound of the rushing Skykomish River. This cabin is really one of the most magical places. You must visit! We surely will be going back. After eating our last breakfast with such a beautiful view we finished packing up and cleaning up the cabin and headed for the city!
Our first stop of the day was a roadside espresso hut. These are everywhere, each with their own theme. This one was a windmill!
Once we got in the city we went straight to our hotel - the good old Holiday Inn. Thanks to Will's hard work and travel we got another free stay! We set our bags down and headed out to the Chihuly Garden and Glass Museum. It was filled with Chihuly's beautiful glass blown pieces. After seeing our friend Jonathan make glass pieces, we had a great appreciate for the work that went into the unbelievable creations.
We had wanted to go to the top of the Space Needle, but it was so rainy and overcast there wouldn't have been much of a view, so we passed. The next stop was the Pike Place Market, just a short walk from here.
The Pike Place Market is HUGE! It is filled with farm stands, craft vendors, small stores, and restaurants. We walked around to get a lay of the land before deciding on Lowell's for lunch. We shared a salmon sandwich.

Our view from lunch. |
The rest of the afternoon was dedicated to exploring the market. We of course had to sample some of the local fish, and we even brought some delectable salmon home to Hawai`i! One of the fish stands in the market has guys who throw fish back and forth to each other while they sing!
You've probably heard about the newest craze: doughnuts! Well Seattle is definitely into that craze (along with it's longstanding craze of coffee and beer!). So we set off to find doughnuts. Even Will had read about Top Pot doughnuts in one of the local newspapers (and you know Will doesn't care for sweets, so if he somehow finds information about them it must be good!). Yelp told us there was a Top Pot nearby that closed at 5pm, so we figured we still had plenty of time to be making our way over there (It was currently just before 3pm).
When we arrived at approximately 3:09pm, we, along with a group of others in front of us, were so disappointed to find that they had already closed! They close at 3pm on Sundays! So we sadly though about what to do next. There must be someplace else to go, but it won't be Top Pot! As we looked on our phones while standing under the awning to stay out of the rain, the door opens. A friendly girl pops out, asks if we're ok, and suggests another Top Pot that's open later. Then she asks, "Do you want Doughnuts?" Will and I look at each other - of course we want doughnuts! That's why we're here? "I have doughnuts," she said, "what kind do you want?" And she starts to list some off. "Really?" we ask. "I'm a doughnut fairy," she said, "I like to give people doughnuts!" I say, "Surprise me," (Beggars can't be choosers right?! I'm I really about to get a free doughnut when I thought this quest was over?) Will suggested chocolate/chocolate for me and cherry for him. The girl said she'd be right back, and in just a minute or two she came back to the door with two packaged doughnuts! This girl made our day! Thank you doughnut fairy. We will find a way to pay it forward!
Next, Will wanted to try another brewery we had walked past on our way to find the doughnuts. Nothing pairs better with doughnuts than beer, though, right?! Old Stove Brewing Company was a super cozy place to drink some beer, watch some football, and stay out of the rain!

Delish! |
After the games were over we headed back toward the market. On our way we stumbled upon a map store! I felt so bad because I knew Will could stay here all day, but we didn't have too much time left. They had a great collection of vintage and current maps from anywhere you could think of.
We got back to the market area and found an ethnic food store with a whole wall of hot sauce! Of course Will picked some to bring home!
Next stop: Mac and Cheese! We had walked past Beecher's Cheese a couple of times and I heard how amazing their Mac and Cheese was. I have to admit that as a Wisconsin girl who loves her cheese, I was a little bit skeptical, but we figured we couldn't not try it while we were there.

Look at all those cheese curds! |

And the verdict is . . . |
|
SO YUMMY! |
|
I mean, look at all those cheese curds! I ate a lot of the samples : ) |
|
Full tummy . . . |
We walked around the market a little bit longer. It was just about 5pm now so most places were closing up.

Looking back at the Market. I'm on the bridge! |
There's an old brewery in the Market called Pike Brewing. It's been there since 1989. Though the beer was pretty good, I wasn't a huge fan of the ambiance. It felt more like a Hard Rock Cafe for beer than a microbrewery. We sampled a couple of their brews, then we were on our way for a much needed walk! We shared everything, but our tummies were getting full!
After we walked around a very sleepy Seattle, we headed back to Post Alley where we had checked out Kells Irish Pub earlier in the day. The sweet Irish lady told us there would be live music later tonight, so we thought that would be a fun way to end the night!
|
In Post Alley, Kells is just down the way. |
|
Enjoying a veggie pasty and some great music! |
We were getting tired and we had an early flight looming, so it was time to start winding down, but Will wanted one more stop - pizza! I found a place that sells pizza by the slice (no way could we do a whole pie!) and it even had arcade games, too!
|
I lost my touch at skee-ball : ( |
Will won all the arcade games, but we still had so much fun! Despite the rain that didn't stop all day long, we had so much fun exploring the Pike Place Market area of Seattle. It had so many experiences and I feel like we got a pretty good sampling. But now it feels like it's time to eat nothing but salad for a week and go to yoga and Pure Barre everyday! The Pacific Northwest is a beautiful region and I can't wait to go back!
