Maui for Valentine's Day!

Our dear friends Rob and Hali were visiting Maui with their family so we just had to pop over to see them and their sweet little girls! And it just so happened that their visit was over the long President's Day (good for a teacher!) and it was also Valentine's Day weekend, too! Perfect!

We arrived in Maui early, around 8am! Nothing was open yet, so we went on a short drive, and stopped by `Iao Valley, a state park with much cultural and spiritual mana (power). This was an area once settled by Hawaiians and was the location where King Kamehameha I and his forces conquered the Maui army in 1790. We were hoping to do a short hike, but the weather was starting to get quite threatening, so we opted for a quick run in and out, and managed to get a few pictures along the way!

Drivin' through Maui - wooo!

`Iao Valley

SO windy

Beautiful Hale and valley

`Iao Needle - this is all from erosion - incredible!

On our way out of the valley area we came across a line up of cars and a police car. We quickly realized that a tree had fallen across the two lane road and no one could get by. Luckily people called in their backups and within minutes guys in trucks with chainsaws pulled up, broke up the tree, and we were on our way. Will got to help, too!

Will going to check it out.

Chainsaws coming!

We were back on our way pretty quickly and started heading toward Lahaina, with the idea that we could stop along the way if we saw something interesting.

We came upon the Tropical Market, which was a beautifully scenic park area, with a farm stand, large gift store, small gift stores in the park area, and a zip line and recreation area. There was also a large restaurant under renovation that looked like it would be a lot of fun, especially if it wasn't so windy out!

So gorgeous!

We kept going toward Lahaina to have lunch at Maui Brewing Company. After we enjoyed delicious brew and grinds (food) we stopped at a few shops and the grocery store. It proceeded to downpour so any outdoor activities were out of the picture. We went to our hotel to check in, see Rob, Hali, and the girls, and showered up. We went out with Rob and Hali for dinner at the Lahaina Fish Company. They even gave the ladies roses, how sweet! We finished the night with locally made ice cream and a walk around Lahaina.
