Holiday Season in Napa
When Will and I visited Napa back in October we joined Chandon Winery to have some bubbly for the holiday season. We figured instead of paying for shipping we would opt to pick it up considering we live only an hour from Napa! So we drove up for the day to visit a couple wineries and pick up our December shipment from Chandon. It was a really rainy day, but despite that, we had a wonderful time. It made it nice and cozy! One benefit of going on a gloomy raining day in December is that it is the off season, so everything was very quiet and we got great treatment during our visits.
Our first stop was Trefethen Family Vineyards. This might be one of my favorite vineyards so far. The wines were delicious, but our favorites were very expensive! The grounds are beautiful. To get to the main building the road travels through the immense vineyards. Once in the building the ambiance is very cozy, charming, and homey. We will definitely be back!
After we visited Trefethen we took a drive along the outskirts of town. It was beautiful to see the hillside and scenery. We decided this is where we will retire to and we'll have a small hobby vineyard!
Then it was lunch time! We went to Redd Wood and had a wonderful meal of a fried risotto appetizer with a truffle and lettuce salad, a wood fired margarita pizza, and of course a glass of wine!
We made one more stop before heading to Chandon. We stopped at the Girard tasting room, which was actually right next to Redd Wood restaurant. They were having a holiday open house which offered complimentary tastings and treats!
Finally we topped it off with our visit to Chandon. We received our complimentary tasting since we are members and then picked up our bottles.
Our original plan was to drive back home and I was going to make dinner, but it was getting late by the time we got back into town and decided we would try out a restaurant down the street from our apartment that we had been eying up for a long time. Marica did not disappoint! The restaurant was completely full, and although they offered us a table, we opted to sit at the bar so we could actually talk to each other as opposed to shouting across the table! What a good choice we made! Not only were the dishes that we ordered delicious (salad, pork chop for Will and Salmon for me) the bartender sent us a plate of mussels to start off with, and at the end he sent us a dessert of berries, whipped cream, and little cake pieces. So yummy! We will definitely be back.
We had a lovely day together which was a great way to send Will off to work in Texas for the week. This weekend we have some dear friends coming to visit from San Diego, and next week is Christmas already! We have a lot to look forward to!

This sign was on a table in the winery. This is my style of a California Christmas! |
