What a Weekend in the Bay!

Saturday, October 6th

Phew! It's hard to even know where to start with this weekend. It was a record breaking weekend for ridership on the BART, and it was expected that there would be one million more people in San Francisco, which could only mean one thing - a lot of action going on! Here are just a few of the things going on: Fleet Week in SF, Oaktoberfest in Oakland, Giants playoff game, America's Cup sailing races, Madonna concert, Justin Bieber concert, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival in Golden Gate Park, and just a beautiful autumn weekend altogether! Needless to say we had a hard time deciding what to do and certainly didn't make it to everything we had hoped.

We knew we for sure wanted to attend Fleet Week as well as the America's Cup races so that's where we started. We packed a picnic lunch and headed on our way.

Ready to go to the city, Pumpkin Late in hand!
We wandered our way toward the Russian Hill neighborhood and had a picnic lunch. Here was our view from where we ate!

By the time we finished our picnic the Fleet Week air show had started. We walked and walked to find the best place to watch that wasn't along the waterfront and filled with tourists. We found a big open space with almost unobstructed views. I'll spare you from the many, many pictures I took, but the stunts and tricks the pilots put together were unbelievable. It only made a person feel super patriotic! Go America! There were a couple times the jets flew right over us, coming from inland going out toward the Bay and it just about made us jump out of our pants! Our hearts (or at least mine) were racing, and you could hear car alarms all around the city going off! This was seriously amazing and I'm so glad I got to see what our Navy is capable of doing.

We left our lookout point about halfway through to go walk around the city. However, it was the coolest thing because as we were walking around the middle of San Francisco there were all these fighter jets and the Blue Angels flying just a few hundred feet over our heads!

Now it was time to head to Marina Green to watch some of the America's Cup races!

When the race was over and we were leaving the America's Cup grounds we ran into this lady who said she'd take a picture of us if I gave her my email address. She was a pretty snooty *you know what* actually, but oh well, cute picture!

On our walk to find a place for dinner we passed by the Palace of Fine Arts. We didn't have the time to explore around but we did have time for a photo op! I'm so glade that we live here so that we never have to feel bad walking by something without checking it out. Luckily there's always another day!

This week I've been keeping myself busy with volunteering at Obama's headquarters here in Oakland by making phone calls to battleground states. I'm pretty sure I got a couple people to come to the good side today! whoop whoop! Saturday I am headed back to my motherland - Napa!! Be sure to check back soon as I'll definitely have some updates from that trip.

On another note, I just want to say thank you again to all of our amazing friends and family for your support as we begin our life in California. Please know how hard it is for us to be away from you all. We miss you dearly and think about you every single day. We love you and appreciate all of your kind words and thoughts more than you could ever know. We are really loving life out here and we couldn't be doing it without you! Lots of love to you all from us!
