Today was the first Bears vs. Packers game of the season. It ended on a better note for the Packers, but we still had fun watching the game, even at 7am! However, Ava had a hard time staying awake.

An Emerald City Getaway

March 23, 2017

Thanks to Will's hard work and travel he earns a lot of points on Hawaiian Airlines and at Holiday Inn hotels. This means we get to take fun trips like our trip to Australia! Will had earned enough points for us to go on a vacation that didn't even need to be part of a work trip, so after looking at destinations Hawaiian flew to, we decided on Seattle! (Yes, we were crazy when we ruled out Tahiti because it was "too similar" to Hawai`i.) So for Spring Break we went on a long weekend trip to Seattle and the Cascade Mountains. Our first day was strictly a travel day, arriving in Seattle around 10pm. We checked into our airport hotel for a good night's sleep, and we were up and going early in the morning for some exploring. After we picked up the rental car we drove to the Queen Anne neighborhood of Seattle. It reminded us of the nice neighborhoods around the lakes in Minneapolis! We had a delicious breakfast crumpets at Queen Bee's, which donates 100% of its...

There is Much to Do on Moloka`i!

August 03, 2015

Some people you talk to will say that there is nothing to do on Moloka`i. We beg to differ! Even on day 4 we had a list of things to do and still didn't get them all crossed off. Guess we'll just have to go back! We started the day full on vacation style with drinks by the pool. I must give you some background about Moloka`i. The community is very much about stopping most development dead in its tracks. However, back in the 1970s several resorts and ranches (with deer, pheasants, turkeys, for hunting) managed to get built. In the 1980s one of the resorts was sold to a Japanese Real Estate group. They had big plans to expand the resort area by building homes, more golf courses, and more hotels. There was big push back from the community and after a struggle to find new buyers, the whole area shut down. There are about 150 condominiums that are privately owned and have continued to operate, while all of the resort areas like hotel rooms, golf courses and club houses, and res...

Happy St. Patty's Day!

March 17, 2013

You all know of my Irish ancestry, and my love for celebrating St. Patrick's Day, so it will come to no surprise to you the excitement I had for celebrating our first St. Patty's Day in San Francisco! We weren't able to make it to the parade and festivities on Saturday, but we got out to some of the block parties on Sunday. We started at The Irish Bank (an Irish pub, not actually a bank!) in the financial district of SF. We had delicious fish and chips and some Irish beverages while listening to live Irish music. After we went through about all the sunshine we were going to get out of this ally location, we walked over to our next destination. On our way, we passed by Chinatown. We enjoyed the rest of our afternoon listening to more live Irish music at O'Reilly's Irish Pub in North Beach. House party at the apartment above O'Reilly's! A gorgeous day in SF! Apologies to our Midwestern friends and family for the cold, snowy weat...
