Literally! We love the beach and try to get there about once a week. On one of my trips to Hawai'i with Will we visited Lanikai Beach and were in awe by its beauty. When we visited we weren't prepared for a long visit. There are no facilities, amenities, or shade on the beach (which is actually one of the greatest things about the beach since you feel a little more remote) so it's important to bring your own supplies - a lot of water, sunscreen, chairs, and beach umbrella. Now that we're locals, we have all of these things! So we packed up our beach gear and a picnic basket of drinks and food and set up at the beach for the day. We went swimming, snorkeling, and walked along the beach. The highlights of the day were seeing a turtle about 15 feet away from us while were swimming and right at the end of our day at the beach I got stung by a jellyfish! Luckily it was just a common jellyfish and I didn't have a severe reaction. I had a mark around my arm where the jellyfish wrapped its tentacles and it was kind of bumpy. When it happened we were out in the water swimming, only about elbow deep in the water, when I all of a sudden felt something like a pinch all around my left forearm. I looked over and saw a white-ish blob floating away from me and a big black eye in the middle of the blob. I got out of the water right away, Will picked off the tentacle remnants, and I applied an ice pack from the cooler on my arm. (And I know what you're all wondering, no, I didn't have Will pee on it!) I took some ibuprofin and when we got home I took some allergy medicine and applied a lot of hydrocortisone cream. I looked up info on what to do and these were the best recommendations. However, my beach bag now contains a bottle of vinegar! Apparently jellyfish stings are not that uncommon and I am now officially Hawaiian! haha!
