Margaretta Visits Part III
Today both Will and I took the day off so that we could spend a little extra time with Margaretta. It also happened to be the day with the best weather, so it was perfect! I have to take back a bit of what I said, because Will actually had to go into the office for about an hour to take part in a conference call. Beforehand we all took the bus into downtown. Margaretta and I got off a few stops earlier and walked around the farmer's market in Old Oakland and stopped by World Market to get some reusable bags to toss in our purses for later. Shortly thereafter we stopped by Will's office to show Margaretta around. Our next stop was a new bar/restaurant Olde Depot Public House, which is a spinoff of one of our fave places, Beer Revolution. They carry a similar line up of ever changing beers, but also have a kitchen (which Beer Revolution does not). While stopping here a few weeks ago, we discovered that they have an all Vegan menu including delicious "brats"! (Don't tell my dad or brother-in-law so that we can bring them here :) ) Margaretta really loved the sausage that she ordered, and ours were so good, just like last time!
From Oakland we took the ferry into SF.
We got off the ferry at the Pier 41 stop in San Francisco. This dropped us off right next to Pier 39 where the sea lions gather! I know it's cheesy and touristy but I love it!
From there we busted out of tourist central and walked through North Beach on our way to Chinatown. We stopped for a rest at Washington Square.
We finally made it to Chinatown. Will and I picked up some new wooden spoons (exciting, I know!) and Margaretta got some amazing tea that we sampled at a tea shop, some Chinese shoes, and some more tea!
After our adventures in Chinatown we took the BART to the Mission District to take Margaretta to our favorite taco (for Erin) /burrito (for Will) place there. She thought it was good, but certainly didn't feel the same way we did about it. Oh well! I'm sure she still had high expectations after a life changing experience at Burma Superstar : )
And after dinner, we headed back to the Ferry Building at the Embarcadero to meet Will and Margaretta's Aunt Helen and her two little boys. I had not yet met Aunt Helen, and she hadn't seen Will and Margaretta for almost 17 years! We had a nice evening chatting with Helen and her two boys. She is a lovely lady (very much like her sister, my mother-in-law!) and her two boys are the most charming little guys I've ever met. We also had a gorgeous backdrop for our meet-up, and beautiful weather to top it off!
The picture above is the western portion of the Bay Bridge which is currently lit up with LED lights as a part of The Bay Lights. Click on the link to read all about it! It is the world's largest LED light sculpture. The lights are individually programmed to create a never-repeating display through 2015! This picture does it no justice at all. It is positively spectacular!
It was finally time to head back to Oakland. We were some tired kids after such a long, though wonderful day!

We got a glimpse of Lombard Street, the "most crooked street," but I heard that there is actually a street more crooked, but the name escapes me at the moment.
