Record Cold!

Image
It's been so cold this weekend! This morning at 8am we hit a record low of 61 degrees (it was previously 63 degrees back in 1995). It had been raining all weekend and was dark and cold. Needless to say we did a lot of cozying up and not much else. Even the girls got cuddly!

Aloha, Friday with Friends!

Image
Our friends Ross and Lindsay came to visit us on Oahu for a couple of days on their way to Kauai. We went out for dinner and drinks at Duke's when they got here. We got poured on shortly after the picture below was taken, but we dried off and headed to the indoor Maui Brewing Company. On Saturday we took them all around the island from Pearl Harbor to Lanikai and ended in Haleiwa. We had an awesome time together squeezing three day trips into one!

Tax Day = Trump Day

Image
Here in Hawai`i we are *fortunately* isolated from much of the political landscape. As much as Will and I would like to be able to get out there and have our voices be heard, it's nice to live in one of the bluest states in the country and enjoy the benefits that comes along with it. Yet we know that back on the mainland there is a lot going on and many good things are in jeopardy of being threatened. So when the worldwide Tax Day marches were announced to encourage Trump to release his taxes, we were in! Before the march though, Tesla was holding a test drive event right down the street from where the march began, so of course we had to go check it out. We've gotten up close to them before, even sat in one, but never drove it. At one point Will gunned it and I felt like the wheels had lifted up and we were flying! Will also got to use the self driving feature and sure enough, the car drove along curves and even stopped behind a car at a red light all on its own. Crazy! ...

Big Waves at Ka`ena Point

Image
Will and I took our bikes out to Ka`ena Point from the North Shore on Saturday. This is one of my favorite places on the island. It's quite a hike, about three miles each way, so we've figured out that biking gets you out there much more quickly! It was a beautiful day and the waves were raging, so it was just as spectacular as ever. We saw quite a few Laysan Albatross, but unfortunately no monk seals or whales this time. We sat on this rock and watched the waves crash for. I could have sat here all day! It was magnificent! On our way back we filled up two large garbage bags with marine debris. Doing that always makes us feel good, like we're giving back a little for the gorgeous day the island gave to us. We ended the day with a beverage, poke, and fish tacos at Breaker's restaurant in Hale`iwa while we watched some basketball. It was another beautiful Hawaiian day!
