Happy Birthday, Will!

I love celebrating Will's birthday! Not only does he deserve to be celebrated, but it always give us a good reason to go adventuring. This year June 10th came at a busy time, with Will having a busy week at work leading up to his bday, and the both of us having travel for the following three weeks! However, we still made sure to sneak in a night of camping up on the windward side of the O`ahu.

The weather was saying rain on the windward side, but we kept our fingers crossed for good weather. Once we got up to the campsite at Kahana Bay (about a 45 minute drive from home) we ate our picnic lunch and strolled the beach. Despite a few clouds in the sky the sun was shining, so it was time for a hike! We walked down the way from the campsite and started our way up the mountain to hike crouching lion.

About a third of the way up a very steep climb, we came to a clearing. I turned around and immediately my head started to spin and my heart began to race. I felt like I was going to stumbled right down the hill! I sat down for about five minutes before I finally gathered my bearings. Will went up a little higher and said it was till just as steep. I knew I wouldn't be able to make it, so down we went. At least we got a pretty good view out of it!

We walked back to our campsite, collecting firewood along the way, and got everything all set up before we relaxed at the beach.

While we sat along the water we watched paragliders jumping from the mountains, sailing around above the bay, and landing along the beach. It was amazing!

After a little relaxing, clouds started to billow up and it started to sprinkle and then pour! We got soaked! Fortunately it only rained for about five minutes and we got a little bit of sun afterward to help us dry off. However, we took this as a sign to get a campfire started and get our food cooking in case there was going to be more rain to come.

Will built us a great beach bonfire. We enjoyed chips and salsa and fish tacos cooked right over the fire. It sprinkled a little on and off, but otherwise we had a great evening for a bonfire.

Just as our firewood supply was starting to run out, the rain started up and got heavier and heavier. We called it a night and cozied up in our tent. We woke up bright and early to catch the sunrise. Unfortunately there was more rain coming so the sky was filled with clouds. But we still had a lovely breakfast of coffee and muffins and enjoyed the crispness of the air. We began to pack up the camping gear and just as we were all finished the rain came back with a vengeance. What great timing we had to be all packed up and on our way. We were home around 8am which left us plenty of time to get ready for our busy weeks ahead!

Happy Birthday, Will! I hope you had a memorable weekend!
